Pacific Power For Your Home For Your Business

Oregon Renewable Energy Options

Choose from three renewable energy options

Pacific Power offers three renewable power options to its Oregon residential and small non-residential customers. Sign up and you can help support renewable energy development and create environmental and economic benefits in the region.  The program is Green-e Energy certified, which means the renewable energy supported meets rigorous national environmental and consumer-protection standards established by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. For more information visit Green-e Energy.

Your choice supports renewable energy beyond what Pacific Power already purchases or generates on behalf of all customers. No matter which option you select, you will continue to receive the same reliable Pacific Power electricity service.

By paying a little more on your electricity bill each month, you can be a part of a more sustainable future.

More than 34,500 Oregonians are supporting renewable energy through the Blue Sky program and actually doing something to help make it happen.

It’s easy for you to make a difference, too.

More information on each of the options is provided below.

  • Blue Sky Block - lets you support wind energy in 100 kilowatt-hour (kwh) increments called blocks for an additional fixed cost of $1.95 per block per month. You can buy as many blocks as you'd like, allowing you to match a portion, or all, of your energy use to wind resources around the region. In addition, you help advance the construction of new smaller-scale, community-based projects that might not otherwise be built.
  • Blue Sky Usage is based on your total monthly usage and features energy from a blend of renewable sources - at least 61 percent wind, up to 38 percent biomass and 1 percent solar. The additional cost is $0.0089 per kwh - less than a penny. For the average home using 1,000 kwh monthly, Blue Sky Usage would cost approximately $9.00 more per month. You would help avoid more than 14,500 pounds of CO 2 emissions annually — as much as your car makes when driven more than 14,700 miles.*
  • Blue Sky Habitat works like the Usage option (above), but also includes a $2.50 monthly donation to  The Nature Conservancy , a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of native  fish  habitat. The average additional monthly cost for this option is $11.40. Go to Blue Sky Habitat  for more information about the program and the restoration projects.

* Pacific Power purchases the exclusive right to claim all of the environmental benefits from the generation of electricity produced by renewable energy power plants in the exact amount of Blue Sky purchases. The environmental benefits figures are based on the average non-base load generation emissions from the Western Energy Coordinating Council (WECC) region, as updated September 2008, and on data and calculations provided by the U .S. Environmental Protection Agency  .

Some of the funds from your Blue Sky block purchase may support the construction of new renewable resources in the region, such as solar panels on community facilities that add more renewable energy to the system and help Blue Sky customers make an even bigger difference.

Additional costs for the Usage and Habitat programs are based on an additional cost of $0.0089 per kwh. Additional monthly charges for the Block program are based on $1.95 per 100kwh block purchased. Additional cost and environmental benefits for Usage and Habitat programs will increase and/or decrease along with your actual energy usage each month. Additional cost and environmental benefits associated with the Block program are fixed based on the number of blocks you purchase and do not fluctuate monthly.
