2005 Health & Human Services Grants

In March 2005 the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning awarded close to $865,000 to 92 nonprofit programs in 40 communities in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.  The following are some of the organizations awarded grants for projects that further the Foundation’s mission to foster strategic sustainable learning initiatives that serve the best aspirations of individuals, organizations and communities, and that enhance and develop their capabilities to address significant challenges and opportunities:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of NW Wyoming (Worland) safety awareness/abuse prevention training
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah (Murray)  expand adult mentoring program
  • Boy Scouts Learning for Life  (Portland, Ore.) programs in NE Portland elementary schools
  • Camp Fire USA-Walla Walla Council (Wash.)  after-school and summer camp programs
  • CASA for Children (Portland, Ore.)  volunteer recruiting/training program
  • Cascades East Area Health Education Center (Bend, Ore.)  RN training project
  • Common Ground Outdoor Adventures (Logan, Utah) special ed classes in Preston & Cache Counties
  • Evanston Child Development Center (Wyo.)  expansion of computer lab program
  • Family Support Center  (Midvale, Utah)  LifeStart Village education/life skills training program
  • Friends of Children (Portland, Ore.) Academic Achievement tutor program, Adolescent mentor program
  • Huntsman Cancer Institute (Salt Lake City, Utah)  free cancer information resource program
  • Lovejoy Hospice (Grants Pass, Ore.)  The Teens!  bereavement counseling program
  • Mediation Works (Medford, Ore.)  Schools Conflict Resolution Program

  • No. Portland Nurse Practitioner Clinic (Ore.) Prevention Project uninsured/low-income children
  • NW Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing (Yakima, Wash.) mobile health screening unit
  • Oregon Burn Center (Portland)  Education & Prevention program
  • Oregon Partnership (Portland)  parenting education program to prevent underage drinking
  • Portland Impact (Ore.)  Mentoring to Achieve Potential program
  • Portland YouthBuilders  (Ore.)  WomenBuild  to increase female construction program  students

  • YWCA of Greater Portland (Ore.)  LearnLinks program for children in shelters/transitional housing
  • YWCA of Salt Lake City (Utah)  CHOICES psycho-educational classes for at-risk women
  • Local Boys & Girls Clubs (Grants Pass, Portland & Redmond, Ore.; Murray, Provo & Salt Lake City, Utah; Buffalo, Casper & Worland, Wyo.) support for Project Learn educational enhancement program
  • Local United Way organizations (totaling $585,000 to match PacifiCorp employees’ contributions in 32 communities in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington & Wyoming)
