PacifiCorp Foundation grant to help restore Pomeroy's Maple Hall

POMEROY, Wash. — Pomeroy’s historic Maple Hall will sport a restored hardwood floor next spring, thanks to a $4,000 donation by Pacific Power’s charitable arm, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning.

Built in 1928, the building at Seventh and Columbia streets has served the community well. However, some seniors and disabled citizens find access to Maple Hall difficult, and its bathrooms and kitchen have long need improvements. Most of the PacifiCorp Foundation donation will go toward refinishing the Hall’s original maple hardwood floor, with the remainder going toward renovating the bathrooms.

The donation will be made on behalf of the Pomeroy Spinners, a local service organization that is planning the hall’s restoration. Mark Jenkins, president of the Spinners and a lineman representative for Pacific Power, said a lot of progress has been made.

“The kitchen is completely remodeled and wired,” Jenkins said. “Currently we’re waiting on a couple of bids to fix the foundation. Next we plan to finish restoring the bathrooms, and then we’ll refinish the floor.”

“The floor has never been sanded,” he said, “so it will look brand new when it’s all done.”

“Maple Hall is the focal point of this area,” said Bill Clemens, regional community manager for Pacific Power. “Most events in this county are held there, and we know this is the kind of donation that helps preserve the bonds of this community.”

In its latest round of grants, the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning awarded nearly $21,000 grants to Washington nonprofits.
