PORTLAND, Ore. — Nearly 70 Portland high school and middle school students will spend an evening listening to Dan Rather,
one of journalism’s most renowned newsmen, thanks to tickets donated by Pacific Power.
Dan Rather is the featured speaker at the World Affairs Council International Speaker Series on Monday, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m.
at Portland’s Keller Auditorium.
“We made the tickets available to students who have an interest in journalism and current events,” said Andy MacRitchie,
PacifiCorp executive vice president. “We believe in supporting events that help teach the interdependence of our world, and
that bring greater understanding of the issues that impact our lives.”
Tickets were made available to journalism students at Madison and Grant high schools, as well as participants in Grant’s REAP*
mentoring program. Students also were invited from Beaumont and Fernwood middle schools.
This World Affairs Council International Speaker Series special event promises to be a fascinating look at some of the events
Mr. Rather covered as a reporter for CBS News since 1962, and the anchor of its Evening News for 24 years. Currently, Rather
is a correspondent for CBS’s 60 Minutes news magazine.
