Pleasant Grove

Project overview

Throughout Utah and Salt Lake counties, demand for electricity is growing as more homes and businesses are built and customers use more energy. Demand on the electric system now in place in Utah County is already more than it can reliably serve. This project will improve reliability in bothe Utah and Salt Lake counties by constructing a newer and larger capacity 138,000-volt transmission system.

The existing 46,000-volt, subtransmission lines begin at the American Fork substation and end at the Manila substation, with an additional section east of the Highland substation. As we upgrade to the larger capacity system, we will generally use existing alignments and easements unless otherwise noted. The alignments have been organized into five sections as described below, as shown on thesection map .

Section 1 - East of the Highland substation, the existing 46,000-volt insulators and conductors will be replaced with new single-circuit, 138,000-volt insulators and conductors. Most of the poles in this area will not need to be replaced.
Section 2 - From the Manila substation to the Pleasant Grove Tap the existing poles will be replaced with new poles. New easements will be acquired in select areas.
Section 3 - From 1100 North and 215 West in Pleasant Grove to the Pleasant Grove Tap, the existing 46,000-volt line will be reinsulated with single-circuit 138,000-volt insulators. The poles in this area will not need to be replaced.
Section 4 - From the Pleasant Grove substation to 1100 North in Pleasant Grove, the existing 46,000-volt line will be reinsulated with double circuit 138,000-volt insulators. The poles in this area will not need to be replaced.
Section 5 - From the American Fork substation to the Pleasant Grove substation, the existing poles will be replaced with new poles. New easements will be acquired in select areas
All Sections - Fiber optic wire will be installed as a static wire from the Tri-City substation in American Fork to the West field substation in Highland.
