BS Medical Eye Center - February 2007

Clients of Medical Eye Center might be seeing through green-tinted lenses these days now that the center is purchasing renewable energy from Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program.

Blue Sky enables customers to help bring more renewable energy into the region. Energy generated from wind, biomass and solar helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Medical Eye Center, located in Medford and Grants Pass, recently signed up for 51 blocks a month of Blue Sky Block wind power, representing 10 percent of their usage. This purchase reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 61 tons, which has the same environmental benefit of planting 12,020 trees (24 acres) or not driving 131,121 miles (taking 10.5 cars off the road for a full year). Buying just one, 100 kilowatt-hour increment of Blue Sky Block costs only $1.95 per month.

"We are excited to support renewable energy," said Keith Casebolt, chief executive officer of Medical Eye Center. "We plan on taking care of our patients’ eyesight for many decades to come and hope that what they see will have as much beauty and wonder as possible. Renewable energy is an important part of making that happen."
