Terra Firma Home fancies itself as a home furnishing store with a conscience, which includes buying Blue Sky renewable energy
from Pacific Power.
Blue Sky enables customers to help bring more renewable energy into the region. Energy generated from wind, biomass, solar
and geothermal helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“I first heard about Blue Sky from a friend of mine while hiking in Bend,” explained Terra Firma owner Mark Millner. “I purchased
some for my home, as well as for our stores in both Medford and Jacksonville. “I think we all want to make contributions to
our planet, and I think that telling other people ways they can be more sustainable will add up to making a big difference.”
Terra Firma is buying 11 blocks a month of Blue Sky Block wind power. Over the course of a year, its Blue Sky purchase reduces
carbon dioxide emissions by 13 tons, which has the same environmental benefit of planting 2,593 trees or not driving 28,300
miles. Buying just one, 100 kilowatt-hour increment of Blue Sky Block costs only $1.95 per month.
Terra Firma sells furnishings that have the least impact on the environment. “As buyers, we take great care in the woods we’re
buying,” Millner said. “For example, we don’t buy endangered woods.”
Oregon customers have a choice of renewable products. In addition to Blue Sky Block, they also can choose Blue Sky Usage,
which allows customers to receive their equivalent energy usage from renewable resources, or Blue Sky Habitat, which allows
customers to buy renewable energy plus make a donation to The Nature Conservancy of Oregon to preserve fish habitat.
