Project overview
Providing our customers with safe, reliable electricity at a low price is a top priority for Rocky Mountain Power. To serve
the region’s growing energy needs, we’re planning a new transmission project in Idaho
and northern Utah.
Part of the company's Energy Gateway transmission program, the Populus to Terminal consists of two sub-projects: the
Populus to Ben Lomond project
will construct a new transmission line stretching 90 miles from the Populus substation to be built near Downey, Idaho, to
the existing Ben Lomond substation in Box Elder County, Utah. The Ben Lomond to Terminal project
will add a new 345-kilovolt transmission line alongside existing high voltage lines from the Ben Lomond substation to the
Terminal substation, near the Salt Lake City airport - a distance of 46 miles. We understand how important it is to develop
this project in cooperation with area communities and residents, and to coordinate with the planning efforts of local, state
and federal agencies. We're working to minimize impacts to the community and the environment from project development, construction
and maintenance.
