Pacific Power adds a green twinkle to Dayton’s holiday festivities

DAYTON, Wash. — This year’s Christmas Kickoff will have a greener shimmer thanks to Pacific Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy. Dayton heralds the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving with the fabulous Friday Night Winter Fireworks Display, sponsored by Pacific Power.

The company is providing 12 megawatts of Blue Sky renewable energy to offset the energy used by theme holiday lights in Flour Mill Park and on Main Street in this historic town.

The kickoff also includes pictures with Santa, hayrides, bus tours to the new Patit Creek Campsite, and a Christmas market at the oldest train depot in the state.

“Dayton has such a wonderful, small-town, holiday feel with its restored main street and the large number of businesses that participate in decorating,” said Jennie Dickinson, executive director of Dayton’s Chamber of Commerce. “The interest in renewable power has increased in Dayton, and having Blue Sky for our Christmas lights adds to the excitement.”

The amount of Blue Sky provided by Pacific Power has the same environmental benefit planting 2,359 trees or not driving a car 25,688 miles (about 400 round trips from Dayton to Walla Walla).

“Blue Sky is made up of renewable energy generated by wind farms,” said Bill Clemens regional community manager for Pacific Power. “Blue Sky helps the environment by offsetting greenhouse gas emissions. While Pacific Power already buys renewable energy for its system, Blue Sky gives customers a chance to help bring even more green power online.”

Pacific Power customers can also celebrate the season by greening their own homes and businesses. Buying just one, 100-kilowatt hour block of Blue Sky costs only $1.95 per month. Customers can buy as many blocks as they wish. Large business customers can buy renewable power in bulk at a discount through Blue Sky QS.

Currently, about 3,626 Washington customers are enrolled in the program. Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program ranks second in the nation in customer sign-ups, and third in the amount of green energy purchased, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Enrollment in Blue Sky is optional and customers can increase their participation or withdraw at any time. Customers can sign up for Blue Sky renewable power by calling Pacific Power at 1-800- 842-8458 or by visiting www.pacificpower.net/bluesky .
