CHEYENNE, Wyo.
— PacifiCorp, which operates as Pacific Power in Wyoming, has contributed $57,000 to the American Red Cross of Wyoming’s disaster
relief fund, as part of a $500,000 corporate donation to aid relief efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane
Katrina.
The contribution was divided among several relief agencies in the six states in which PacifiCorp operates. The funds come
from shareholders and will not be absorbed by rate-paying customers.
“Pacific Power’s contribution for the victims of Hurricane Katrina will greatly assist our efforts to provide needed relief,”
said Charlie McGivern, CEO of the American Red Cross of Wyoming. “This was one of the largest corporate donations for hurricane
relief given in Wyoming.”
PacifiCorp’s corporate donation is above and beyond an employee-driven campaign to raise funds. Employees contributed a total
of $142,000 for hurricane and disaster relief. The PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning, the charitable arm of Pacific Power,
matched $100,000 of employee donations with a contribution to the National American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
“Our employees have been very generous in their donations to help aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, and we are glad to be
able to contribute as a company to the relief efforts as well,” said Bob Tarantola, Pacific Power regional vice president.
“Despite being hundreds of miles from the disaster area, we are all impacted by what has happened to our fellow citizens,
and we want to do all we can to reach out. Pacific Power is pleased to help support the hard work of the relief agencies and
assist people in rebuilding their lives.”
