GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Pacific Power donated $2,000 to The Friends of Redwood Wetlands to add bird nesting platforms and educational
signs in the sanctuary. The Redwood Wetlands is located on the Redwood Elementary School campus.
“We’re absolutely thrilled that Pacific Power is supporting our effort to help students and the public understand the wetlands’
importance,” said Jim Fletcher, Redwood Elementary School principal. “We want to attract more wildlife to our wetlands – particularly
osprey – and improve public access to the area.”
The Friends of Redwood Wetlands is a volunteer group consisting of school personnel, community members and the City of Grants
Pass. Fletcher said that the group already has been working on designs for a boardwalk and trail area around the wetlands,
as well as for designing the interpretive signs that would be placed on the trails.
Fletcher said he hopes a pole and platform for nesting, as well as signage, will be installed in spring of next year. Once
the improvements are completed, area students – particularly Grants Pass School District fourth graders – can include wetland
studies as part of their curriculum.
