Stayton Public Library Foundation receives donation from Pacific Power Foundation

Funding takes care of shelves, cabinets, desks in new expansion

STAYTON, Ore. — The Stayton Public Library Foundation received $5,000 from the Pacific Power Foundation at the recent ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for the Stayton Public Library addition. The funds will be used for shelves, circulation desks and cabinetry at the library.

"We are proud to be a community partner in expanding the availability of the library to the children and adults of the Stayton area," said Doris Johnston, regional community manager for Pacific Power. "My hat goes off to all the volunteers and donors who made this expansion possible."

The Stayton Public Library Foundation was formed in 1992 with a vision for the future of the library. The library was built in 1989. Since 2002, library circulation has risen from 68,000 to more than 112,000 checkouts annually, resulting in an overall increase of 65 percent. This dramatic increase led to plans for the 7,500-square-foot expansion that was just completed.

"The Stayton Public Library Foundation appreciates the award from the Pacific Power Foundation toward the new addition of the Stayton Public Library," said Dave Karr, Stayton Public Library Foundation president. "The addition is definitely a crown jewel of Stayton and the library will serve the community for decades."

The building and basic furnishings for the library are essentially complete; however, the library foundation sees a need to continue its fundraising efforts to provide additional furnishings. Contributions to the foundation can be mailed to the Stayton Public Library Foundation, PO Box 810 Stayton, OR 97383."
