ALBANY, Ore. – For the second consecutive year, Pacific Power is celebrating Albany’s
Businesses on Display by helping keep the regional trade show clean and green with Blue Sky renewable energy.
Pacific Power is buying 1 megawatt-hour of Blue Sky power to offset the trade show’s power use. The 13th annual event will
be held Sept. 19 at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center and is expected to draw thousands of visitors to 109 booths set up
by local businesses.
Businesses on Display is sponsored by the
Albany Democrat Herald, Central Willamette Community Credit Union, Express Personnel Services and Ultrex.
"The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased that
Businesses on Display can demonstrate the viability of Blue Sky power in our area," said Janet Steele, president of the Albany Area chamber. "Through
the terrific support of Pacific Power, we are able to showcase more than 100 businesses to the community plus showcase how
effective and reasonable renewable power is to use."
There are significant benefits to renewable energy use. For example, the clean energy purchased for the trade show prevents
the release of approximately 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, which has the same environmental benefit as planting 196 trees
or not driving 2,143 miles.
"In their own ways, individual Albany-area businesses are being more sustainable," said Doris Johnston, regional community
manager for Pacific Power. "With an effort like this one at Businesses on Display, the business community’s commitment to
renewable energy is also on display."
While Pacific Power already buys and invests in renewable power for all its customers, Blue Sky is a way to help bring even
more renewable energy into the system. Enrollment is optional, and customers can increase their participation or withdraw
at any time.
Large businesses have two renewable options: Pacific Power’s standard Blue Sky Block offering and Blue Sky Quantity Savings.
Blue Sky Quantity Savings allows large business customers to buy renewable energy from Pacific Power for less, providing they
purchase at least 101 blocks of Blue Sky per month for a year (121.2 megawatt-hours a year or what 10 average homes would
use over a period of one month).
