Pacific Power crafts greening of Corvallis’ Fall Festival with Blue Sky

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Now in its 35th year, the annual Fall Festival in Corvallis marks the time when the verdant Willamette Valley begins turning from green to gold, yellow and crinkly umber. This year, the hue for the fall harvest with its colorful entertainment and exciting array of food, crafts and art will be undeniably green, renewable energy green that is.

Pacific Power is providing 1 megawatt-hour of Blue Sky renewable energy to offset the power used by this year’s Fall Festival, which is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors to Corvallis’ Central Park Sept. 22 and 23. This amount of green power avoids putting about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide in the air and has the same environmental benefit as planting 196 trees or not driving 2,143 miles.

"The Fall Festival is a great annual event showcasing local arts and crafts, and this year, we’re proud to help make it a green event as well," said Doris Johnston, regional community manager for Pacific Power.

"The Corvallis Fall Festival brings more than 30,000 people together to celebrate the arts in a beautiful downtown location," said Cynthia Spencer-Hadlock, executive director of the festival. "We are pleased to partner with Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program to provide an event that people can enjoy and also benefit from, knowing that we have gone green this year. As an event for the entire community, it makes sense to be good stewards of our limited resources that everyone enjoys."

Pacific Power customers also can celebrate autumn by greening their own homes and businesses. Buying just one, 100-kilowatt-hour increment of Blue Sky Block costs only $1.95 per month. Customers can buy as many blocks as they wish. Oregon residential and small business customers also can choose Blue Sky Usage, through which customers offset all of their energy usage with renewable resources for a slightly higher amount each month, or Blue Sky Habitat, through which customers buy renewable energy, plus make a donation to The Nature Conservancy of Oregon to preserve native fish habitat. Large customers can buy renewable power in bulk at a discount through Blue Sky QS. Participation is optional, and customers can increase their participation or withdraw at any time.

"No matter which option customers choose, buying Blue Sky renewable energy makes a difference by helping to encourage more renewable energy development in the region, which brings environmental and economic benefits to Oregon," Johnston said.

Customers can sign up for Blue Sky renewable power by calling Pacific Power at 800-769-3717 or by visiting www.pacificpower.net/bluesky. Currently, about 30,000 Oregonians are enrolled in one of the three options. Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program is one of the most popular green power programs in the country.
