Pacific Power’s Blue Sky Customers Keep Central Oregon Green Throughout Summer
June 20, 2012
BEND, Ore. —Summer under the rim rock of Central Oregon may tend toward brown, gray and sage, but thanks to Pacific Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy program, local summer events also will be sporting shades of green.
Throughout Central Oregon, Pacific Power’s Blue Sky customers are “greening” local events such as the Bite of Bend and Balloons Over Bend through the Blue Sky program.
“We love supporting our communities and our customers, whether at work or play,” said Angela Jacobson, regional community manager, Bend. “Providing a voluntary Blue Sky contribution for the electricity used at some of these wonderful community events is another tangible way to show that support.”
Blue Sky renewable energy certificates will match the electricity used at the events. Each REC represents an investment in 100 percent western region renewable energy. Overall, Blue Sky “greenings” in Central Oregon this season will support nearly 8.5 megawatt hours of renewable energy. That’s the equivalent of avoiding more than 10,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, or taking a car off the road for more than 11,000 miles.
The Bite of Bend is set for June 23-24. Balloons over Bend takes flight July 20-22. Later in the summer, Blue Sky will “green” the Little Woody Brewfest, Oktoberfest and Shakespeare in the Park. In May, Pacific Power “greened” the popular Happy Girl Run and the Pole, Peddle, Paddle event.
Pacific Power customers can also celebrate summer by “greening” their own homes and businesses. Enrolling in Blue Sky for just one, 100-kilowatt hour block costs only $1.95 per month. Customers can buy as many blocks as they wish or support renewable energy equal to their monthly electricity use through the Blue Sky Usage or Habitat options.
Currently, more than 43,000 Pacific Power customers in the Northwest are enrolled in Blue Sky. The program is one of the most successful in the nation in promoting renewable energy with more than 81,000 customers in the West participating.
Enrollment in Blue Sky is optional and customers can increase their participation or withdraw at any time. Customers can sign up for Blue Sky renewable energy by calling Pacific Power at 1-800-769-3717 or by visiting www.pacificpower.net/bluesky
About Blue Sky
Strong customer support has enabled the Blue Sky program to be instrumental in the creation of more federally recognized Green Power Communities than any other program in the nation. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has ranked Blue Sky fifth or better in the nation for the seventh consecutive year in the number of customers buying renewable power and for renewable power sales volume. The program is Green-e Energy certified, which means the renewable energy supported meets the rigorous national environmental and consumer-protection standards established by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions.
