Segment G - Sigurd to Red Butte

Project Overview

Our company is committed to providing safe and reliable electricity to customers. To help fulfill this commitment, we have proposed a new high-voltage transmission line stretching approximately 160 miles from the Sigurd substation to the Red Butte substation in southwest Utah.

The Sigurd to Red Butte line segment is a critical piece of PacifiCorp’s Energy Gateway transmission expansion. Completion of this project will help meet the increasing needs of customers throughout the region. During the development of this project, the company will fulfill all necessary permitting and siting requirements and work to minimize impacts to the community and local environment in project development, construction and maintenance.

Additional Information About the Project

The Bureau of Land Management is currently developing an Environmental Impact Statement on the company's right of way application for this project – a process that began in December 2008. The BLM conducted Public Scoping for the project from January 5 through March 5, 2010. Various interested parties have provided input on the project for consideration as the BLM developed the draft EIS, which was published May 27, 2011. The BLM received public comments through July 18 and will develop the final EIS after considering the additional input. It is anticipated the final EIS will be published around May 2012.

For more details on this process, visit the BLM website. Also, see Project History below for an overview of project meetings and milestones in the permitting process.

Permitting efforts continue to move forward as conditional use permits are in the process of being filed within the respective communities from August through October 2011.

Newsletters will be sent periodically to landowners and other interested parties, including the latest Sigurd to Red Butte fact sheet (PDF), newsletter (PDF) and map (PDF). Additional information about this transmission project will be posted on this website as the project progresses and details are developed. Please check back throughout the time-frame of the project for updates.

Public Participation

Project materials and newsletters have been sent to more than 3,700 landowners and other interested parties. Public input is an important part of this transmission line development process and is welcomed at all stages. See Project History above for a history of public meetings conducted for this project both by the company and the BLM, and watch this website for additional opportunities for input.
