Kamas to Oakley Transmission Line Project

Project Overview

PacifiCorp is scheduled to begin construction December 2011 on a transmission line to enhance electric service to Kamas, Oakley and Summit County. This project will provide service in an electric loop that allows electricity to be delivered from two directions to enhance service reliability and help to reduce outage time. If the line has an outage from one direction, the second direction can be manually switched over. In addition, continuing the line to Kamas will help to complete some of the work referenced in the recently completed Summit Wasatch Electrical Plan.

This line will start where it originally left off in 2006,begin at approximately 720 North and Highway 32 in Kamas valley, go west past the Kamas City water treatment facility then southwest of the canal crossing over State Route 248 to the company's substation located at approximately 100 West and SR 248. Some new switch poles will be installed at the Oakley substation site as well. A map of the route is located below.

Additional Information About the Project

PacifiCorp's employees and contractors are working in the area to finalize the necessary easements and complete surveys. Materials will be delivered and construction will begin during the winter of 2011-12. PacifiCorp will coordinate its efforts closely with Kamas, Oakley, Summit County and local property owners. This project finishes a looped system between the Oakley and Kamas substations and will result in enhanced reliability of electric service to customers in the area.

The project will consist of 27 new poles, generally wooden poles, with the angle or corner poles being made of steel. For the most part, the line will be in a location where there are no existing poles. However, the existing poles along SR 248 and the road heading west off of highway 32 at approximately 720 North will be replaced by the new transmission poles.
