Greening the Grove 5%

For years, many residents and businesses in Cottage Grove have shown their support for renewable energy by participating in their utility’s green power program. In 2008 Cottage Grove achieved their goal of “Greening the Grove” by receiving the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Community (GPC) designation.

Maintaining Cottage Grove's GPC status
Recently the EPA revised its criteria for this recognition putting Cottage Grove’s status as a Green Power Community in jeopardy. To maintain the Green Power Community designation, the community need to increase the percent of renewable energy supported from 3.2% to 5%.

Signing up for Pacific Power Blue Sky renewable energy

The Blue Sky program allows customers to support renewable energy. When you enroll in Blue Sky, Pacific Power purchases renewable energy certificates from renewable energy facilities including solar, wind, biomass and certified low-impact hydro.

This guarantees that electricity from these renewable resources is delivered to the power pool. Electricity produced by renewable energy facilities helps offset the
generation of electricity from other, nonrenewable sources, creating measurable environmental benefits.
