Project Help’s Timely Assistance for Fire-struck Hornbrook Depleted Funds; Boost Needed for Winter

November 05, 2018

YREKA, Calif. – When a fire ravaged the Hornbrook area this past summer, The Salvation Army was there to help with Project HELP funds so that households affected did not have to worry about their electric bills.

A total of 110 households received assistance with an average assistance payment of $344.  But, this additional support depleted the Project HELP balance. So now Pacific Power is asking the community to consider helping your neighbors with a contribution.  Pacific Power will match every $1 you donate to Project HELP with $2 more.

The 2-for-1 match will continue until an annual cap of $14,000 of Pacific Power funds is reached.

“Project HELP needs to be there with a strong response when an emergency like the Hornbrook fire hits,” said Monte Mendenhall, regional business manager for Pacific Power. “But there are every day struggles as well that we need to help meet as winter cold will boost electric bills and force some customers into making tough decisions about which bill to pay with limited funds available. No one should have to make that kind of choice. The 2-for-1 match will help our neighbors in a simple and direct way.”

Project HELP is administered by The Salvation Army in northern California.

Pacific Power customers who receive their bills by mail will find a Project HELP contribution envelope in their November bills. Those interested in assisting local households in need can donate by forwarding contribution, which may be tax-deductible in this envelope. Customers who pay their bills electronically can send a check or enroll in the fixed donation program. This program allows customers to donate any dollar amount, starting at $1 per month, which is then incorporated into their monthly bill. Fixed donations will also be matched 2-for-1 by Pacific Power. To enroll in the fixed donation program and to request a donation envelope, call Pacific Power toll-free at 1-888-221-7070.

All donations are forwarded to The Salvation Army, which verifies eligibility and allocates funds to those in need. All funds donated are used to assist Northern California families in need.

Customers who need bill assistance themselves can talk with Pacific Power representatives who can help with payment plans that work for their individual needs and direct them to agencies that may be able to help. Pacific Power’s customer service number is 1-888-221-7070.
