Hood River Valley High School

Hood River Valley High School with a student body of 1,400 students in grades 9-12 is proposing a project developed and pursued by the students in the Hood River Earth Science Club. The project consists of a 20 kilowatt solar installation (roof-mounted array and a series of solar awnings). The students have initiated a variety of other projects including the construction of a wind turbine, a vegetable oil-powered automobile, an electric car competition, and composting in the school cafeteria. This system will offer students a hands-on tool that will be incorporated into the school’s curriculum at varying levels.
