Washington State Dept of Veterans Affairs

A 44.5-kilowatt solar roof-mounted system will be installed on a new 80 bed facility in Walla Walla, Washington for honorably discharged veterans.

The Washington State Dept. of Veterans Affairs was borne of a desire to establish a “Home” for Honorably Discharged Union Veterans. This dates back to 1891. The original home was located at Orting  and was followed in 1911 by another home located near Pt. Orchard. In 2001, in order offer a presence in Eastern Washington, they purchased St. Luke’s Rehab in Spokane and thus opened the Spokane Veterans Home. The new facility in Walla Walla will address the need for such care in the SW Washington area as well as a catchment basin that includes SE Idaho and NE Oregon.
