New debris boom on Swift Reservoir to better control large debris

COUGAR, Wash.—PacifiCorp contractors will be installing a new debris boom on the portion of Swift Reservoir above the Swift Camp boat launch to better manage the large woody debris that comes downstream and can endanger boaters and the operation of the dam and the Swift fish collector.

The target for the boom installation is the week of July 25. The anchors for the new boom are already in place. The new boom, which will remain in place year-round, will help PacifiCorp manage and remove large woody debris that can accumulate in this area of the reservoir.

Each year, PacifiCorp makes any suitable large logs with attached root systems taken from the reservoir available for stream habitat enhancement projects within the Lewis River basin downstream from Swift. Large logs can also be used for terrestrial habitat structure on the 15,000-plus acres that PacifiCorp manages for wildlife habitat.

PacifiCorp wishes to thank the recreationalists who enjoy the Swift Reservoir for their patience during this brief inconvenience and for practicing safe boating.
