PORTLAND, OR - Holiday decorations throughout the Pacific Northwest shine a little brighter when they save energy and reduce their environmental impact during this festive time, thanks to Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program participants. With support from Blue Sky participants, Pacific Power communities are helping celebrate the season while illuminating the benefits of renewable energy by matching the electricity they use for lighting celebrations with emissions-free energy resources.

Local holiday celebrations in 17 Pacific Power communities – from Prineville’s Christmas in the Pines to the Christmas parade through the streets of historic downtown Albany, to the 60,000 lights adorning the Winter Lights Festival in Medford – will have the power used by their local lighting celebrations matched with renewable energy. Overall, community lighting programs are being supported with almost 64 megawatt hours of Blue Sky renewable energy.

“We’re happy to make the season a little brighter for the communities we’re proud to serve and in which we’ve been be involved through Blue Sky for over two decades,” said Berit Kling, senior manager of the Blue Sky program at Pacific Power. “With a growing commitment to renewable energy, we’re delighted to join these celebrations by making them more meaningful and sustainable across the region.”

Pacific Power customers can also celebrate the season by signing up to “green” their own homes and businesses year-round. Enrolling in the Blue Sky program is an easy way to support renewable energy generation in the region and can cost as little as $1.95 per month.
